Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

As we approach the end of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we invited WaveOptics employees across the technical and commercial teams to share what mental health means to them.

WORK-LIFE BALANCE

“In general, my view of having a good mental health means having a good work-life balance, where working from home can blur the line even more. I’ve found that exercising and having a good break during the weekends is essential to recharge and refresh. Spending time on something we enjoy which can be totally unrelated to work can ease off stress. Personally, I love taking photography, forest trekking with family and doing some artistic pencil sketching. In a sense we are all like batteries. We need to rest and plug into the appropriate source to be recharged and to be energised for the extra miles ahead.”

WELLBEING

“Mental health to me means the state of wellbeing of your mind and the whole self, and like physical health it can be good, poor or somewhere in between. I think the perception of breaking the stigma around mental health should consider reframing the discussion around a person’s mental wellbeing, talking about mental wellbeing is easier to talk about and everyone should be concerned about the wellbeing of themselves and those around them.”

ADAPT

“I think mental health means to know yourself fully and have a certain degree of self-assessment of your own abilities. When you are facing difficulties, you can adapt to the changing environment and maintain good interpersonal relationships with people around you.”

RESILIENCE

“I would say mental health is resilience, the product of a fulfilling life and strong personal and social relationships.”

We all have mental health that we need to look after and WaveOptics take a proactive approach. We provide our team with as much support as possible in order to maintain positive mental health. A few benefits include:
